HOUSES

FIRST HOUSE- Self-projection

The first house is connected with the projection of personal character out into the world; it is the house of self.  It is the most personal and most powerful house in your chart, for it symbolizes you, your mannerisms, your style, your disposition, and temperament.  This is the house of your outward behavior, your likes and dislikes.  The first house reveals both the way you present yourself to others and the way the outside world sees you.  It often indicates your physical characteristics, especially your head and facial features.  It denotes what you want in life and how you go about achieving it.  The first house is thought of as a giant lens through which the rest of your chart is seen and interpreted.  Planets placed in this house play a dominant role in personal character and have high visibility.

SECOND HOUSE- Self-worth

This is the house of money and possessions.  It relates to what you own in life and what you will acquire, your income, and your financial prospects.  The second house also tells how you feel about money and possessions and gives a clue to the kinds of objects with which you like to surround yourself.  To a certain extent it gives a picture of your earning power and ability to handle money.  The second house often shows what activities and projects may be a lucrative source of income for you.  Planets placed here are related to one’s personal assets and sense of self-worth.  Difficult planetary placements in this house undermine the feeling of self-worth and create fixations as regards financial security.

THIRD HOUSE- Mental development

This is the house of communication.  It relates to your immediate environment in three major areas: self-expression, your family ties and day to day travel.  This house governs the way you think, speak and write.  Logic, memory and manual skill are in its domain.  The third house often indicates what kind of early education you received and your ability to study and learn.  Your relationship with brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins and neighbors are part of this house’s influence.  This house and the positions of the planets govern travel, especially the travel you do for work and education.

FOURTH HOUSE- Emotional environment

This is the house of home and is connected with the intimate environment.  It indicates the kind of home you had in childhood and your relationship with parents.  What you have brought into this life from your ancestors is in its domain.  Your current domestic affairs are under its influence, as are real-estate holdings and the ownership of land.  It shows emotional identification and a sense of belonging and the kind of security you seek for old age.  This can extend from the security of the home to the greater boundaries of the nation to which one belongs.  The fourth house is one of the more mystical houses in your chart, for it represents what you keep projected and secluded from the rest of the world.  Planets here will describe the kind of home one is attracted to and the sort of activities that take place in the home.  The planets here will also express themselves in a private and intimate manner showing close family bonds.

FIFTH HOUSE- Self-expression

This is the house of creativity, sex and the building up of a sense of identity security through a trust in oneself.  Your sexual nature is a large part of its domain.  Children and the joy you receive from them are governed by this house.  The fifth house also relates to entertainment and holidays, amusement and the arts.  It rules love affairs, new undertakings in life, speculations and gambles, games of chance.  It is the house that expresses your artistic talents as will as your ability to enjoy yourself in life.  In childhood, pets and playmates are part of this house because you instinctively give affection to them.  This is the house of your heart.

SIXTH HOUSE- Practical integration

This is the house of service and of health.  Often called the house of service to others, it indicates your need to help others and to be useful in the world.  This house rules your relationship with the people you work with, both subordinates and employers.  The sixth house also relates to your state of health and especially to illness brought on by worry or emotional upsets.  It also signifies whether you have a robust or delicate constitution and what kinds of diseases you may be subject to.  Planets placed here show the kind of advantages or difficulties that are experienced in working relationships.  These planets will also show the kind of work one is involved in and the working colleagues one relates to.

SEVENTH HOUSE- Relationship

This is the house of partnership, marriage and social relationships.  It often indicates what kind of marriage you will have and whether you might divorce or remarry.  This is your house of partnerships in marriage, work, business, legal affairs, and sometimes in politics.  It covers legal unions or contracts you enter into and both sides of a question or dispute.  This house concerns you ability to work harmoniously with others.  In reality planets here show qualities one denies in oneself and projects onto other people.  The house indicates both enemies and loved ones, as both are connected with the phenomenon of projection.  The seventh house is the opposite of the first house of self; here you blend your personality with others in order to pursue shared goals.

EIGHTH HOUSE- Hidden resources

This is the house of death and regeneration.  It is one of the mystical houses in your chart and one of the most difficult to understand.  Sometimes called the house of spiritual transformation, it rules the life forces that surround sex, birth, death, and the afterlife.  It may give some indication of the conditions surrounding your death, although the precise time always remains a mystery.  There is much emotional anxiety and trauma connected with this house.  It is related to the hidden powers in society connected with finance, such as banks and tax authorities as well as inheritance and other people’s money.  This is the house of psychic powers and occult studies and knowledge.  Planets placed here will be hidden in their expression and reflect unresolved emotional issues

NINTH HOUSE- Meaning of life

This is the house of mental exploration and long distance travel.  It expands on the third house of study, travel, and mental pursuits.  This is the house of the higher mind.  Under its domain are higher education, philosophy, and the study in depth of profound subjects.  This house controls long journeys of both the mind and the physical body.  It concerns actual travel to foreign lands and business interests in other countries.  The ninth house rules your public expression of ideas and is therefore the house of publishing and literary effort.  Planets placed here will show the nature and form of the insight, which dawns during the course of one’s life and the attitude one has to spiritual and intellectual authorities.

TENTH HOUSE- Achievement

This is the house of career and public standing.  It rules your profession and status in the community and your public reputation.  It has been called the house of ambition, aspiration and attainment.  The tenth house reflects your image, as shown in the power, position and honors that you may achieve.  It is outward expression of your talents, the way you accept responsibility, the place you arrive at through your own efforts.  This house has a great influence on your material success in life.  This is a powerful house and planetary expression here brings prominence and a degree of professional success.  Planets placed here will show what kind of relationship one has to people in authority and the kind of executive talent one possesses.

ELEVENTH HOUSE- Social involvement

This is the house of friends and of hopes and wishes.  It has to do with long-term dreams and goals and with intellectual pleasures.  This house governs your involvement with groups and organizations that have to do with your work, profession or family.  It often indicates the kinds of friends and acquaintances that can best further our interests and objectives in life.  It also reflects your ability to enjoy other people.  On the highest level it represents a harmonious working environment, each one doing what best expresses ones individual personality.  It is the house of idealism and vision.  Planets placed here will show the ease or difficulty of social integration, first at school and later in social circles.

TWELFTH HOUSE- Dissolution

This is the house of secrets, sorrows and self-undoing.  It is the most mystical and it does define limitations placed on your life.  It governs disappointments, accidents, trouble and self-defeat.  It rules unseen forces, secret enemies, escapism, asylums, hospitals and prisons.  The twelfth house has been called to house of karma and the house of spiritual debt, for it contains the rewards and punishments for the deeds one commits in the world.  It is associated with psychic powers and there is a close communion with nature or God.  Any planets here express themselves on a more spiritual level, creating a world of dreams, fantasy and imagination.  The planets here will take on whatever color is appropriate in any given situation.
